About Us

The Atlantic Makers in 2023 moved to Petersburg, Virginia, the home of the original high end cabinet makers of the 1800s.

The two master makers and designers have a passion for making fine furniture and for producing furniture. Classically trained, both in England and the United States, we bring a high level of skill and precision to our designs and final pieces of furniture.

We offer one on one personal service and white glove delivery.

The workshop is not only a place to design and build quality furniture, but we also want to help the local community by providing courses and instruction.  Check out the courses that we offer.

Mark Kragel

Mark is a master furniture maker, furniture designer, and conservator.  Mark's master furniture maker training was completed at the Rowden Altelier School of Fine Furniture in England. There he spent a year working alongside guild mark master members.  Before going to England, Mark spent 15 years restoring and conserving multi-million dollar Danish West Indian antique collections in the U.S. Virgin Islands.  Mark shares his passion and knowledge for the craft of fine furniture making and restoration through teaching short and long term courses.

Malcolm Schweizer

Malcolm is the grandson of a furniture maker and wooden boat builder, and has been woodworking since he was young. He has carried on his grandfather's legacy in his own work making bespoke furniture, boats, and wooden surfboards. Malcolm taught woodworking and boatbuilding in the US Virgin Islands before moving to Petersburg Virginia, where he now shares the Atlantic Makers workshop.  Malcolm's philosophy is "Knowledge not shared is lost," believing that knowledge is a gift that is not to be hoarded, but rather to be passed on to others.  When knowledge is passed on, it grows exponentially.
